There are two sets of computers for student use in College - these are located in the Student Computer Room in the Theatre basement and the Gunn Gallery, in the Ward Library.
The Student Computer Room contains three PCs running Windows, two Apple Macs, an A4 scanner and both colour and black/white laser printers.
The Gunn Gallery computer rooms (on the ground and mezzanine floors) contain six PCs running Windows and a black/white laser printer.
All the computers are part fo the University's Managed Cluster Service (formerly PWF) and you will need a MCS login to use them. Your files are stored centrally by the University Computing Service and are accesible from any MCS computer in the University - this includes many departmental computer rooms.
In order to use the printers you will need to buy printer credit from the UCS. This can be done either on-line or in-person at the Computing Service Reception - see www.cam.ac.uk/cs/desktop-services/ds-print/paying/payment.html for more information. We are unable to accept payment for printing at any office in College.
Every student room in College is provided with a wired connection to the College network (with the exception of some external houses which are directly connected to the Internet) and the Internet.
In order to use your computer on the College network you will need to register some information with the Computer Office - your name, room and the hardware address of your computer's Ethernet adapter. Instructions on finding out hardware addresses are available here - How To Find The Hardware Address Of Your Computer. Generally we will collect this information from you when you matriculate, hoever if you change your computer or want to register an additional machine, you can e-mail this information to the Computer Office (co@pet.cam.ac.uk).
If you connect your computer to the College network you must abide by the Terms & Conditions for use of the Peterhouse Network. These exist to assist the smooth running of the College network and to help you comply with the University Computing Service's own rules - which the Peterhouse regulations are a subset of.
The Computer Office is located adjacent to, and accessed from, the Student Computer Room in the Theatre/Library basement. The office is open to Junior Members Monday to Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
At other times enquiries should be addressed to the Computer Officers, Mr Andrew Cleland and Ms Antonia Irvine.
