Undergraduates are required to give advance notice of the date on which they intend to return to College by email.
Residence in College is not normally permitted for undergraduates except during University Term and the Long Vacation period of residence. Only those undergraduates who have secured the permission of the Senior Tutor may remain in residence after the end of one University Term and/or come into residence before the start of the next.
For residence in the Christmas or Long Vacations it is necessary to discuss the matter with the Senior Tutor first; for the Easter Vacation it is sufficient to complete the form. Further details on eligibility for vacation residence and the application form can be found here.
All Junior Members of the College are required to be acquainted with, and abide by, College Regulations, copies of which are available from the Tutorial Office.
College Regulations are intended to ensure the safe and smooth running of the College as a community; they have been approved by the Governing Body and the Senior Tutor is responsible for ensuring that they are observed.
Notices and forms for Junior Members will be posted here:
The College annually makes a limited number of grants to both graduate students and undergraduates for the purpose of travel (not normally for study) during the Christmas, Easter and Long Vacations.
Further details on the criteria for the award of travel grants and the application process can be found here.
The College will consider applications from graduate students for grants towards expenses incurred in primarily travelling in connection with their research, or for any special expenses incurred during research over and above those that would normally be expected.
Graduates should consult the Senior Tutor in advance.
Undergraduates may also, in certain cases, be considered for awards in similar circumstances.
The College will consider applications from undergraduates for grants towards the costs of remaining in Cambridge for the purpose of vacation study.
Claim forms will be made available here after each vacation period has ended.
The College is trialling a scheme whereby Junior Members may receive a grant of 50% of the cost of books required for academic work and approved by each Junior Member's Tutor, up to a maximum of £50 per annum.
Further details and an application form can be found here.
During the trial period, eligibility is restricted to first year undergraduates and graduates only.
Students or alumni who are eligible to receive their degrees may do so at Congregations of the Regent House held on Saturdays at regular intervals throughout the year. The College Praelector, Dr Philip Pattenden, is responsible for presenting students at Congregations when they receive their degrees.
Any member of Peterhouse who has fulfilled the appropriate examination and residence requirements may proceed to their degree at Congregation. The College will contact those students who it expects to present for their 'first' degrees at General Admission over the Easter Vacation (i.e. students reading for B.A., M.Eng., M.Sci. and LL.M. degrees).
The Board of Graduate Studies informs graduate students when they have been approved for their degrees and asks them to contact the College to make the necessary arrangements to have their degrees conferred at Congregation. Please note that graduate students are not automatically entered for graduation – they must register for a specific Congregation.
The College will not put forward anyone for graduation who has not settled their College and University bills.
If you wish to put your name forward to receive your degree at any Congregation you will need to contact the Praelector's Secretary. Please note that graduation applications must be submitted at least 14 days before the date of the graduation ceremony. Graduands may be presented in person or in absentia.
Information about the graduation ceremony itself, including guidance on academical dress, guests and the dates of forthcoming Congregations, may be found here. Please note that in the case of General Admission, Peterhouse students always graduate on the given Thursday.
Members of the College may consult the College Nurse, Mrs Dee Williams who holds regular surgery hours in the Sick Bay, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m and on Wednesday from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon during Full Term
The Sick Bay is located on the ground floor of Fen Court.
At other times the College Nurse may be contacted via the Porter's Lodge.
In the event of a serious accident or medical emergency, Junior Members should dial 999 to summon an ambulance and them immediately inform the Porter's Lodge that a 999 call has been made, tel 01223 338200.
In order to assist the College Nurse, Junior Members are encouraged to complete the form below promptly and return it to the Tutors' Secretary:
All undergraduates are required to register with a Cambridge Doctor as early in their first term as possible, returning the form below to the Tutors' Secretary:
The College Nurse will be happy to assist with this process.
The University’s Counselling Service offers a free and confidential service, open to all students at the University. Professional counsellors are available to talk through any personal or emotional concerns that you might have during your time at the University. The Service, which is based at 2-3 Benet Place in Lensfield Road, also offers a range of group sessions and workshops. The University Counselling Service website is a useful source of information on a wide variety of topics.
You may, however, prefer to talk with your Tutor or the College Nurse before approaching a counsellor; your Doctor may also provide counselling help.
More information on health and welfare resources, including support for students with disabilities and student parents, can be found on the University website and on the JCR website.
The Counselling Service offers advice on bereavement and grief: University Councelling Service - Bereavement
It is well known that some students are managing on limited funds. At times this financial hardship can affect students' ability to work, their health and general welfare. There are a number of ways in which these difficulties can be alleviated and the Tutors are usually best placed to know where and how to obtain funding support.
