Peterhouse Open Days in 2012
We shall be holding four Open Days for sixth-formers or Year 12s who are interested in applying for admission to Cambridge in 2013 or 2014. The dates are as follows:
- Saturday 28th April (Mathematics only) - Please note bookings for the Mathematics Open Day have now closed.
- Thursday 5th July
- Friday 6th July
- Wednesday 12th September (TBC)
All places for these days must be booked using this form.
These are structured events so please do not book onto more than one Open Day. However, the programme for the Open Days on 5th and 6th July are designed so that visitors can also attend Faculty events and visit other colleges during the afternoon as part of the University Open Days (this may require separate booking). An example schedule can be found below.
10.30 - 10.45 a.m. Arrival at Peterhouse; refreshments.
10.45 - 11.45 a.m. Talks and interactive sessions about admissions by an Admissions Tutor followed by questions and discussion.
11.45 - 1.15 p.m. Tour of the College with undergraduates. Lunch in Hall (free of charge if pre-booked). Teachers are invited to lunch with an Admissions Tutor. Discussion of specific subjects with Directors of Studies. Sessions will be in rotation and the times and venues will be advised on the day.
The College will also be open for student-guided tours for prospective candidates and their parents attending the Cambridge Open Days between 1.30pm and 4pm. There is no need to book with the College to attend this part of the day but you should book to attend the overall Cambridge Open Days. For more information about the Cambridge Open Days and to book a place for this event please click here.
The programme for the September Open Day will be similar but with an additional Q&A session 1.15pm-2pm with current students and the Schools Liaison Officers.
Important Information - please read carefully before applying for an Open Day
- Peterhouse does not admit undergraduates in the following subjects: Education; Geography; Human, Social and Political Sciences; Land Economy; Psychological and Behvioural Sciences; and Veterinary Medicine.
- Parents are invited to attend the Admissions Tutor session and join a tour of College but unfortunately, due to lack of space, it is not possible for parents to attend the subject sessions nor is it possible to offer overnight accommodation or meals.
- Booking: Those who wish to attend an Open Day must complete a booking form and return it to the Admissions Co-ordinator at Peterhouse. Please note that places are limited and early booking is therefore encouraged. In the case of school parties, we request that you provide the names and subjects of those attending when booking. There is a limit of six students and one teacher per party. Booking forms may be submitted electronically if you do not require any accommodation or meals for which payment is necessary. We regret that telephone bookings cannot be accepted.
- Accommodation: Overnight accommodation may be available for those travelling long distances for the Open Days. The charge for bed and breakfast is £11 per night. Dinner (if required) costs £4. Booking and payment are required in advance for all accommodation and meals (except for lunch which, if booked, is included free-of-charge on the Open Day you are attending). If you need to submit payment, please send this along with your booking form by post.
- Travel: If you are planning on coming to an Open Day, particularly on 5th and 6th July which coincide with the University Open Days, you are advised not to bring a car into the historic city centre where Peterhouse is located. We suggest that, as well as the normal public transport options, you consider the excellent Park-and-Ride system. The closest Park-and-Ride stop to Peterhouse is Emmanuel Street, which is used by all of the five Park-and-Ride routes. The website includes a map of the City Centre which clearly marks Peterhouse, a three minute walk away.
- Travel Fund: The University of Cambridge has established a travel fund to enable Looked After Children who have been or are in care to travel to Open Day events organised by the University and Colleges of Cambridge. Please click here for more information.
University and Faculty Open Days
There are many Faculty and specialist Open Days during the year. If you are attending one of these, you may have time to visit us at Peterhouse. Please book this with us in advance. On some Faculty Open Days, e.g. Mathematics, we may be organising events to complement the sessions at the Faculty.
More information about the Cambridge University Open Days can be found here. If you register for a University Open Day, you will receive a programme of all of the events which are taking place (also available on the day).
