Dr Robert Ross Russell is a Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care and Respiratory Paediatrics at Addenbrooke's Hospital.

Having trained in Cambridge (m 1976, Trinity Hall) and London, he came to Cambridge as a consultant in 1992. Clinically he has established the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Cambridge, an eight bed unit serving the whole of the East of England. His MD (Cantab, 1993) was titled 'Diaphragmatic function following cardiac surgery in children' and his research interests have continued to be physiological. His current work includes the non-invasive assessment of respiratory and cardiovascular function in children, using technology such as electrical impedance tomography and measurement of bio-impedance.

In College, he is Director of Studies in Medicine, and supervises physiology for first year undergraduates. He is keen to encourage contact with the College, and would be delighted to talk to prospective (and indeed past!) students about the course and about studying medicine at Cambridge.
