Fee support and Student Loan

There are lots of sources of funding available at Peterhouse when you arrive (more information on those here). The menus below provide information about sources of funding available to offer-holders that require action before you get here.

All

All offer-holders are eligible for a Choral Award or an Instrumental Award at Peterhouse. Applications are due in the Spring (see websites for details).

Home UK/EU students

Home and EU students wishing to take up Tuition Fee and/or Maintenance loans must make an application to the relevant office. This is Student Finance for English students, Student Finance Wales for Welsh students, Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for Scottish students, and Student Finance NI for Northern Irish students.

The amount of Maintenance loan you are eligible for is dependent on your household income. You can also get extra help from the government loan if you have certain characteristics (e.g. you are a care-leaver). For EU students the Student Finance website has an application form for help with University Tuition Fees and they also have a reassuring statement about EU finance for current students, offer-holders and applicants for 2017 entry. The government has announced that EU students applying for courses starting in 2018 will remain eligible for UK student support for the duration of their course. Note that applications for all such loans are completely independent of your application to Peterhouse. Each office sets its own deadlines for applications to ensure that loans are processed in time for the start of term, and all queries should be directed toward the relevant office.

All Home (whether UK or EU) students can be considered for the Cambridge Bursary (max. £3,500 p.a.) which is calculated on a similar basis to government Maintenance loans. You will automatically be considered for this bursary if you apply for a means-tested loan from the government, and agree to share this information with your institutions. Even if you don't accept, or aren't eligible, for such a loan from the government then you must go through this process in order to be considered for the Cambridge Bursary.

If you have applied for financial support from Student Finance, or the equivalent regional office, you must provide Peterhouse with a copy of the Student Finance Payment Advice letter along with your Financial Guarantee (FG) form. If the letter is not available in time for the FG deadline, you should submit it as soon as possible afterwards, or bring it straight to the Finance Office when you arrive at Peterhouse.

Overseas students

Before you apply to Peterhouse

Peterhouse is proud to be one of only four Cambridge Colleges that works with the Jardine Foundation. The Jardine Foundation offers full scholarships to students from certain countries in the Far East. Applications to the Jardine Foundation are seperate from applications to Peterhouse, and the deadline to apply is usually in late October.

After you have an offer from Peterhouse

There are a number of scholarships available to Overseas students at Cambridge, which are administered by the Cambridge Overseas Trust (COT). All Overseas offer-holders are encouraged to apply to the Trusts in January for a part-scholarship of £8,000 p.a. In addition, there are various nationality-/domicile-dependent scholarships available, some of which require a separate application (some are pre-application, see website for details). Offer-holders who apply to the COT can expect to hear the result of this application in May. They are also considered for additional funding by the Pedterhouse Grants Committee, which typically offers between £500-£3,000 p.a. for selected students (although sometimes a case can be made for a larger sum) and these results are typically announced in June or July. Both the COT scholarships and Peterhouse Grants are allocated based on financial need and academic ability, and the fund are specifically towards tuition fee costs. Successful candidates are obliged to inform the College of any additional Grants/Scholarships secured, and this may affect the amount of funding provided by the College. Additional specific terms and conditions apply.

In addition to the above scholarships, all Overseas candidates with financial need are encouraged to apply to external sources for further funding.
