Assistant Librarian

Peterhouse is the oldest College in Cambridge (founded in 1284) and is also among the smallest (currently 291 undergraduates; 176 postgraduates; 43 Fellows).

The College is now seeking to appoint an Assistant Librarian for the Ward Library, the College’s working library. The Assistant Librarian provides professional support and assistance to the Librarian, deputising for them when required, and contributes to the day-to-day running of the Library. Reliability and the ability to work accurately are essential for this post, as are excellent communication and customer service skills.

The duties of the post include working at the enquiry desk, cataloguing, book processing, collection development and managing journal subscriptions. In addition, the post holder will be expected to undertake some work in the Perne Library, Peterhouse’s rare book library. The successful candidate will be a degree-educated, qualified librarian with experience working in academic libraries. They will have excellent IT skills and will be proficient in cataloguing.

The salary for the post will in the region of £25,434 - £29,215 per annum, dependent upon experience. The hours for the post are expected to be 36.25 Monday to Friday 8.45am to 5.00pm. The appointee will need to work flexibly during the initial employment period due to the current situation, which may include evenings and some weekend working.
