Mental Health Advisor
Peterhouse is the oldest College in Cambridge (founded in 1284) and is also among the smallest (currently 291 undergraduates; 176 postgraduates; 43 Fellows).
The College is now seeking to appoint a Mental Health Advisor, who, as a key member of the Welfare Team will oversee the provision of welfare support, to our diverse student population (undergraduates and graduates), and the wider college community. Line managed by the Senior Tutor and in close liaison with the other members of the Tutorial and Welfare team, the postholder will respond to the needs of students, offer support to individuals with social, emotional, financial and other difficulties, and assist with resolving their problems so they can continue to pursue their studies successfully.
The successful applicant will hold a relevant qualification as a Mental Health Nurse; be able to demonstrate relevant experience in a similar role (evidence of current, valid registration to practice required); have the ability to deal effectively and appropriately with a wide range of psychological and welfare difficulties presented; exercise initiative, discretion and sound judgement at all times whilst gaining the respect and confidence of University students of all ages by demonstrating an approachable manner. An awareness of the context of the College and University environment and its impact on service provision would be a distinct advantage
The salary for the post will be in the region of £46,000 pro rata per annum, depending upon experience. The hours for the post are expected to be between 25 hours and 36.25 hours per week on average. The precise hours of work will be negotiated with the successful candidate, bearing in mind that the time demands of the post are highly seasonal, and the appointee will need to work flexibly in order to be available on-call and to deal with specific incidents as they arise. The post holder will be provided with an office and parking space in the College. An Enhanced DBS check will be required.
The closing date for completed applications is 8.00am on Monday 23rd September 2019
