New Step-Free Access to the Master's Lodge and Garden

A recent project to introduce an accessible entrance to the Master’s Lodge and Garden was completed this month. The project began under the previous Master, Bridget Kendall, with design work beginning in October 2020. Construction started in August 2024 and finished in October this year, and, as well as the new entrance hall, has also added a disabled toilet and these two rooms have been painted in the Peterhouse crest colours.

Thomas Hoblyn (Thomas Hoblyn Garden Designs) designed the beautiful gardens around the access to ensure that the space is not just functional, but also a peaceful and picturesque corner of the College. Where three old trees and lots of overgrown ivy were taken out, five new trees have been planted and surrounded by a number of shrubs and plants which have established well so far with the care and encouragement of our gardening team. Alongside the disabled bays and an electric car charging point, soft lighting has been introduced to ensure that the pathways are well lit in the evenings.
