Peterhouse Graduate Studentships Competition 2018
Peterhouse Graduate Studentships 2018
The Governing Body of Peterhouse intends to award a number of Graduate Studentships, to be taken up in October 2018.
Peterhouse Graduate Studentships will normally be held for the normal duration of a research student’s degree, up to a maximum of four years. Students may be funded for a one-year MPhil on the condition that they intend to be candidates for the PhD, for which they will receive a maximum of three years funding.
To be eligible for a Peterhouse studentship, applicants must be accepted as a graduate student by the University of Cambridge. They must therefore submit an application through the University’s Board of Graduate Studies, and they must meet whatever criteria are specified by the University and the department or faculty to which they apply. You need to make sure that the Faculty to which you apply also considers you for all University studentships for which you are eligible. You can check how this is done by consulting the Graduate Admissions Tutor in the Faculty or on the Faculty’s website. You will find useful information on the University’s Graduate Funding page, at https://www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/finance/funding . Note that your application for a PhD is made to the University and not to Peterhouse. You can make your application for Peterhouse Graduate Studentships at the same time as your university application. Successful applicants must study at Peterhouse.
The value of each studentship will depend on whether students are in receipt of other grants. If a successful applicant has no funding from other sources, then their studentship will cover University and College fees plus maintenance at the same level as the Arts and Humanities Research Council awards (currently £14553 per year for doctoral students, and £10914 per year for MPhil students). This is what is meant by 'full funding'.
Successful applicants who have grants from other sources will receive some proportion of full funding. Students who already have full funding are not eligible to apply for a Peterhouse studentship.
Applications must be made online here
Applications and referees' reports must be received by 5pm on Friday, 5 January 2018. Incomplete applications will NOT be accepted. Successful candidates will be informed in early April 2018 and will take up their awards at the beginning of the academic year 2018-19.
