Petrean Elected Next Master of Selwyn College

The Fellows of Selwyn College have announced that they have elected Petrean Suzanne Raine (m. 1988) to be their next Master, taking up the role from 1 October 2025.

Suzanne read history at Peterhouse from 1988-91 before studying towards a PhD from 1992-95. She served for 24 years in the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office on foreign policy and national security issues, including postings in Poland, Iraq and Pakistan. She specialised in counter-terrorism, holding a number of senior domestic appointments including Head of the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre from 2015 to 2017 and Director of Counter-Terrorism from 2017 to 2019. 

Suzanne has been working at the Centre for Geopolitics at Cambridge University since 2019, appearing recently in our "Women in Geopolitics" panel event - a combined event between the College and the Centre as part of Peterhouse's '40 years of women' celebrations. She is also a Visiting Professor at the Department of War Studies at King's College London, as well as an Independent Non-Executive of EY, Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Imperial War Museum, and a member of the Board of Trustees at the Royal United Services Institute and at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln.
