I completed my MA at the University of St Andrews, before moving to Trinity College, Cambridge for my MPhil and PhD. Throughout, my research has addressed the history of ideas of fifteenth and sixteenth century Europe. I’m especially interested in how individuals from this period dealt with information distant in time (the early church) or place (Byzantium, Ethiopia), which I have explored chiefly through translations in manuscript and print, and well as surviving letter collections. I will bring these interests together in my next project, which will use the correspondence of cardinal Marcello Cervini (1501-1555; elected as pope Marcellus II in 1555) as a window into relations between the Catholic church and the Christians of Asia and Africa in the sixteenth century.
