Mr Sam Collings-Wells

Sam is a historian of the 20th century United States. His current research examines the transformation of American liberalism between the 1960s and 1990s, focusing in particular on how liberals reinvented their approach to crime, policing, and public safety. He is also working on a separate project charting the rise of ‘big-state conservatism’ in the United States, which examines how a group of conservative politicians and intellectuals advocated for a more robust use of state power in reaction to the political and social revolutions of the 1960s.

Prior to undertaking his PhD, Sam completed both his Bachelors (Double Starred First) and MPhil at the University of Cambridge.
