Dr Alia dos Santos

Dr Alia dos Santos is an Investigator Scientist and Wellcome Trust Early Career Fellow at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. She is also a College Research Associate and supervisor in Natural Sciences (Biological) at Peterhouse, University of Cambridge.

Dr dos Santos studied Biochemistry at the University of Lisbon, before completing her PhD at the University of Sheffield. She was awarded the Kendrew Doctoral Thesis Prize (2022) by the British Biophysical Society for her contributions to the understanding of chromatin organisation during DNA damage and its influence on nuclear viscoelastic properties. Her research programme focuses on nuclear stability and repair during mammalian spermatogenesis and ageing using a combination of cryo-electron microscopy and advanced optical imaging techniques.
