Peterhouse aims to offer all the facilities you need to work, rest and feel at home. In addition to the library, academic facilities, accommodation, the dining hall and the bar, the College also has a common room for undergraduates to use, a fully-equipped tiered theatre, a squash court and there is a gym, music practice rooms and laundry facilities in the new Whittle Building. 

However you like to fill your time outside of study, whether with sport, performance art, writing for a student newspaper or throwing yourself into one of the myriad of societies available here, Peterhouse provides a great springboard. From social action groups to ultimate frisbee, our students are involved in a wide range of clubs, societies and activities, both at College and University level. 

Every year has its top-rate sportspeople, but opportunities also abound for the first-time rower or even just a Sunday kickabout. The collegiate structure of the University means that it’s easy to try out new activities at a non-competitive level – maybe you will discover a talent you never knew you had!  At College level, you will find serious and not-so-serious sports teams in men's and women's football, rugby, rowing, tennis, cricket and many more.  We have a squash court and gym within the College grounds while the playing fields, tennis courts and boathouse are a short distance away and shared with Pembroke College. For the very talented, the University teams offer the opportunity to compete at a very high level. 

The 180-seat Friends of Peterhouse Theatre has excellent acoustics and high-standard audio-visual equipment. The Heywood Society (the Peterhouse student drama society) puts on plays every year, often using the College gardens in summer. The theatre also hosts concerts, films and lectures. 

The Peterhouse Music Society is open to all students who are interested in performing and listening to music. It holds a regular series of well-attended recitals, as well as a number of larger scale concerts. We have two grand pianos and brand new practice facilities in the Whittle Building. 

The Chapel Choir is enthusiastically supported by the College and choristers receive singing tuition at College expense as well as other benefits. We offer several choral and instrumental awards each year. The Chapel has one of the finest baroque organs in Cambridge and there are two organ scholars in residence at any one time. The Choir often travels to sing in concerts and services outside Cambridge. 

Peterhouse prides itself on also providing interdisciplinary discussion and debate in a less formal context through student-run academic societies which are open to all. The Perne Club invites speakers such as Tariq Ali, Frank Kermode, Germaine Greer and Tam Dalyell. The History Society and Politics Society attract large audiences to hear figures like Tony Benn, David Starkey and Michael Portillo. The Kelvin Club is a forum for discussion of topical subjects in the Sciences, Medicine and Mathematics. Recent speakers include Nobel laureate Professor Sir John Gurdon, Professor David Tong and Sir John Meurig Thomas.

If Peterhouse doesn’t have the society for you, you can go to the University-wide 'Freshers' Fair' in your first week to join clubs devoted to almost every conceivable interest. 

In addition, the College Bar offers a welcoming place to meet up with friends and the student-run Entertainment Committee puts on regular parties, theme nights and events, including a variety of social events to welcome new students into College.
