Emeritus Fellow Professor Jacques Heyman celebrated his 100th birthday a few weeks early with a gathering held in College on 23rd February.

The event hosted by the Master in the Master's Lodge and was attended by Professor Heyman's family, along with many friends, peers and former colleagues. A cake was made by the Catering team and the College gifted Professor Heyman with a signed copy of a limited edition gravure etching by Andrew Ingamells - believed to be the first etching or engraving to depict Peterhouse from an aerial perspective.

Professor Heyman originally read mathematics at the College aged only 16, before switching to engineering. He was Head of the department of engineering from 1983-1992 and has been associated with the College for over 80 years.

When awarded the Sir Frank Whittle Medal in 2022, the Royal Academy of Engineering noted:

From Gothic cathedrals to steel skyscrapers, Professor Heyman’s research has not only guided the design and repair of countless historic constructions around the world but paved the way for new low-carbon vaulted structures made from local materials, his work inspiring generations of structural engineers and others working in masonry and who seek to build modern structures with more efficient use of resources.

The College wishes Professor Heyman a very happy 100th birthday for this weekend.
